Recognised experts

A recognised expert may report on the conformity of vehicles to individual approval or small-series EC type-approval requirements.

A recognised expert may also act as an authorising officer for individual approvals and as a registration or alteration inspector. A recognised expert who has reported on the conformity of a vehicle may not, however, approve or inspect the same vehicle.

In Finland, recognised experts are authorised by the Finnish Transport Safety Agency (TraFi) to operate in their areas of specialisation. The specialisation encompasses a regulation/subject of inspection (directive, ECE regulation or national regulation) and the scope of the inspection, i.e. the competence class (type approval or individual approval).
