Registration inspections

If you want to register an individual vehicle in Finland, a registration inspection or an individual approval needs to be carried out. This involves ascertaining the technical data of the vehicle and its conformity to regulations, as well as checking its condition, construction and accessories.

When must a registration inspection be carried out?

When a vehicle is registered, it must be inspected if:

  • it has already been registered within the EEA (incl. Finland and the Åland Islands)
  • it has already been registered outside of the EEA and in use for more than six months
  • it has been decommissioned from traffic due to damage or export
  • it was removed from the register before 2 November 2007

Please note that an ordinary registration does not require an inspection.
